A 40-year-old woman is facing a long list of charges after a chaotic arrest that left officers — and medical staff — wrestling to restrain her as she allegedly screamed, spat, and violently resisted police.
The incident began when officers responded to a 911 call reporting a severely intoxicated woman at a duplex on Fairday Lane in Palm Coast. When deputies arrived, they found the woman — identified in reports as Julia Jones — staggering, confused, and reeking of alcohol.
Witness statements suggest Jones may have consumed nearly five liters of vodka in a single day, and even used Uber to order more alcohol to her location.
Officers tried to keep the situation controlled, asking Jones to stand near the patrol car for her own safety. But things escalated instantly.
According to bodycam footage, Jones suddenly began screaming uncontrollably before spitting directly at the officers, prompting them to step in and restrain her. She resisted fiercely, thrashing, kicking, and refusing commands as officers attempted to get her under control.
What followed was several minutes of intense struggle involving deputies and medical personnel, who eventually managed to get her handcuffed and secured in the back of a patrol car. Jones was then transported to a hospital for evaluation before being booked into the Flagler County jail.
She now faces charges including:
- Public intoxication
- Assault on law enforcement
- Possession of illegal substances
The sheriff’s office later released the dramatic bodycam footage, which quickly drew widespread attention online. Viewers were stunned by Jones’s violent resistance — and by the level of patience officers displayed despite being spit on and attacked in the process.
The incident has sparked conversations about alcohol abuse, policing, and whether the woman was fully responsible for her actions given her extreme state of intoxication.
What’s your take?
Should severe intoxication be considered an explanation — or an excuse?
