Dallas police have arrested several suspects following a series of violent road-rage shootings that unfolded on a heavily traveled North Texas highway, alarming motorists and prompting a large-scale investigation.
The most recent incident occurred on the Margaret McDermott Bridge over Interstate 30, where videos circulating on social media showed gunfire erupting from vehicles traveling across the bridge. Police say the shooting happened on a packed roadway, placing numerous drivers at risk. Investigators recovered more than 100 shell casings from the scene, underscoring the severity and recklessness of the gunfire.
Authorities identified two suspects in the bridge shooting as Anthony Acevedo, 20, and Jose Alarcon Sanchez, 18, both residents of Grand Prairie. According to police, the two were seen in the videos discharging firearms during what investigators believe was a road-rage encounter. No serious injuries were reported in that incident, though police emphasized that the potential for loss of life was significant given the volume of traffic at the time.
Investigators later discovered that Alarcon Sanchez had been arrested earlier the same day for a separate firearms-related offense, raising further concerns about repeat behavior involving illegal weapon use.
As the investigation continued, detectives linked a third suspect, Anderson Derce Lara, 25, to a separate road-rage shooting that occurred in November. Police allege that Derce Lara fired multiple shots into a vehicle occupied by three adults and three children during a confrontation on the roadway. Authorities described that incident as particularly disturbing due to the presence of minors inside the targeted vehicle.
Derce Lara now faces six counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, reflecting the number of occupants inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting. Acevedo and Alarcon Sanchez have been charged with misdemeanor firearm offenses related to the bridge incident.
Court records show that Acevedo has since been released on bond. Alarcon Sanchez and Derce Lara remain in custody and are being held on immigration detainers, according to law enforcement officials. Police have not released additional details regarding their immigration status beyond confirming the detainers.
Dallas police say these arrests are part of a broader effort to crack down on violent road-rage incidents, which have been increasing across the region. Investigators credited public tips and video evidence for helping identify the suspects quickly.
“This type of behavior puts innocent lives at risk,” police said in a statement. “Discharging firearms on a busy highway is extremely dangerous, and we will continue to pursue those responsible.”
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities urge anyone with additional information or video footage related to the incidents to contact Dallas police.
