A recently released body-camera video shows officers questioning a pregnant woman during a traffic stop after noticing irregular behavior and discovering her vehicle had no visible VIN number.
The incident begins when officers ask the woman to step out of her vehicle so they can inspect paperwork and verify the vehicle identification number, which they say is missing from multiple locations. Officers instruct her to wait at the front of the vehicle while they attempt to contact the registered owner.
During the interaction, officers ask about her identity and whether she knows the owner of the vehicle. When she hesitates and fails to confirm the person’s real name, officers become suspicious and begin questioning her further.
One officer then brings up her record:
“You were arrested for possession of PCP last year, right?”
The woman acknowledges this but insists she is not under the influence. The officer expresses concern, telling her her “spacing out” appears consistent with signs of PCP intoxication. When asked when she last used the drug, the woman initially claims it has been two weeks.
The conversation turns more serious as officers learn she is pregnant. The woman admits she recently smoked with another person and did not know PCP was involved, but also admits to smoking marijuana while pregnant. The officer questions her choices:
“Do you think that’s an intelligent decision? You’re not supposed to smoke or drink when you’re pregnant.”
The officer then conducts an eye-tracking sobriety test and warns her not to move her head, explaining the procedure. After completing the test, the officer tells her:
“Don’t lie to me again… I might have to call a drug recognition expert.”
The footage ends before revealing whether the woman was arrested or whether the vehicle was impounded, but the incident has sparked online conversations about drug use during pregnancy, law enforcement interactions with impaired drivers, and concerns about vehicles with missing VIN plates.
