On July 28, 2021, officers pulled over Nicole Johnson, 35, for driving an unregistered, uninsured vehicle with a fake temporary tag. During the stop, officers noticed a strong odor of decomposition coming from the car.
As Johnson began removing items from her trunk, police were horrified to discover two severely decomposed bodies concealed in containers—later identified as her niece, Joshlyn Johnson (7), and nephew, Larry O’Neal III (5).
A History of Neglect
Investigators revealed that the children had been placed in Johnson’s care by their mother in 2019. According to court records, Johnson admitted to fatally injuring Joshlyn in May 2020 and later leaving her body in the trunk for over a year. Larry died under similar circumstances in May 2021.
