In a heartwarming and slightly bewildering scene, a village grandmother has captured hearts after being filmed feeding a wild cat that roams near her home — treating it with the same care and calmness she’d offer a house cat.
The video, which has since gone viral on social media, shows the elderly woman crouched near her doorstep, placing a bowl of milk and scraps of cooked food for the feline — believed to be a jungle cat or a feral hybrid. The wild cat approaches cautiously at first, then begins eating as the grandmother strokes its back gently.
“She says it started coming around during last year’s monsoon,” said her granddaughter. “At first it just watched from the bushes. Now, it waits by her door every evening.”
Local wildlife officials have visited the home and confirmed that the animal is a small wild species — not domesticated, but not considered immediately dangerous either.
“This kind of interaction is rare,” said Dr. Anika Sharma, a local conservationist. “It speaks to the deep bond some rural communities have with nature — but we still urge caution. Wild animals should stay wild.”
Villagers have nicknamed the cat Bagha (meaning “tiger cub”) and say it’s never shown aggression. Still, officials are monitoring the situation to ensure both the woman and the cat remain safe.
As for Grandma, she’s not worried. “He’s just like one of my children. He comes hungry, and I feed him.”
