American Eagle’s supposed apology statement is going viral on Facebook. On July 30, 2025, a media page named ClickHole posted the statement. The clothing brand’s alleged message mockingly read that they wanted people to use the ad campaign as “sex fodder,” and “get off” by seeing Sydney Sweeney in “tight-fitting denim.”
For the unversed, American Eagle released their ad campaign with Sydney Sweeney on July 23. The 30-second-long ad had the tagline, “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans,” along with wordplay of “genes” and “jeans.”
The actress saying this made netizens believe the ad was allegedly promoting eugenics. Both the actress and American Eagle have since then recieved massive backlash.
The apology shared by ClickHole is, however, false, as the brand has not shared anything similar on its website or social media handles.
ClickHole is a known satirical website that posts fictional news for entertainment.
According to The Guardian’s June 14, 2024, report, ClickHole is a spinoff of another popular satirical news website, The Onion. The About page of ClickHole shared that they parody “the average website,” and focus on making viral articles. They mockingly stated that they plan on misleading the readers.
“Let’s be honest: Today, the average website carelessly churns out hundreds of pieces of pandering, misleading content, most of which tragically fall short of going viral. At ClickHole, we refuse to stand for this. We strive to make sure that all of our content panders to and misleads our readers just enough to make it go viral,” the website states.
ClickHole’s post has garnered nearly 1,000 likes on Facebook and has prompted more parody apologies. A content creator named Karim Jovian has shared another such “apology.”
The post has over 1,300 likes, and more than 100 comments and shares.
American Eagle has not released an apology; instead, they are hiring for a new social media manager role

The clothing company also shared in the job description that the person should “maintain” the brand’s “cultural relevance.”
