A traffic stop captured on video shows a driver giving a false name and failing to provide identification after being pulled over for speeding and wearing headphones while driving, according to footage shared online.
The incident begins when the officer approaches the vehicle and asks the driver for his ID, registration, and insurance. The driver admits he has none of the documents with him, saying his wallet is at home and he was “just taking my mom to work.”
The officer informs him he was traveling 39 miles per hour in a 20 mph zone and also notes that the driver is wearing headphones, which is illegal in many jurisdictions while operating a vehicle.
When the officer asks if he has any form of identification, the driver reaches into his pocket. The officer immediately reacts:
“What’s in your pocket?… Don’t reach for what’s in your pocket.”
The driver then shows a bottle of vitamins and a keychain, saying that’s all he had. He becomes increasingly nervous, explaining that he has an appointment to get to.
The officer asks for his name, and the driver responds:
“Roger.”
However, moments later, the officer grows suspicious and says:
“Oh no… no, no. What’s your real name?”
After repeatedly asking for the man’s last name and receiving evasive answers, the officer confronts him:
“Can you tell me why you gave me a fake name?”
The video ends before the outcome of the traffic stop is shown, but online viewers have speculated that the officer likely discovered a warrant or suspended license, leading to the driver’s attempt to conceal his identity.
The footage has prompted discussions online about police procedure, driver responsibility, and the risks associated with providing false information during a traffic stop.
