Judge Frank Caprio, widely known as “America’s nicest judge,” has passed away at the age of 88, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, fairness, and humanity.
Caprio first became a household name through his show Caught in Providence, where his heartfelt and often humorous rulings gained millions of views online. He had an extraordinary ability to connect with people in his courtroom, often turning tense situations into moments of warmth and understanding.
In December 2023, Caprio revealed that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, calling it “an insidious form of cancer.” He fought bravely for more than a year and a half, undergoing treatment while continuing to share words of encouragement and gratitude with his followers. In August 2025, his health took a serious turn, and just days later, he peacefully passed away surrounded by family.
Tributes have poured in from across the country. Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee called him a “treasure,” saying his ability to connect with people on a deeply human level made him one of the most admired figures in the state’s history. Fans from around the world have also taken to social media to honor his memory, sharing how his kindness left a lasting impact on their lives.
Judge Caprio is survived by his wife Joyce, their five children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Though he is gone, his message of empathy and humanity will continue to inspire generations.
