A late‑night call for assistance turned tense after a homeowner reported hearing suspicious noises near a wall outside her residence, prompting officers to respond for a welfare and safety check.
According to body‑camera audio from the encounter, officers arrived at the home and attempted to speak with the woman, who appeared distressed and reluctant to come to the door. When deputies asked whether she had lights on inside the home, the woman responded that she did but refused to exit, stating she believed someone had been near her property.
“I thought I heard somebody down by the wall… by the gate,” the woman reportedly told deputies. When officers offered to walk with her to investigate the area, the woman declined, instead remaining inside with the door partially open.
Tensions escalated when deputies noticed the woman was holding an unidentified object behind her back. Officers repeatedly asked what she had in her hand, expressing concern for their safety.
“I’m kind of nervous when you keep your hands behind you,” an officer stated. “I can see something in your hand.”
The woman did not reveal the object and responded, “And that’s where the woman can get shot,” highlighting her fear of the situation.
Deputies continued trying to calm her and gather information while maintaining a safe distance.
No injuries were reported, and authorities have not disclosed whether additional units or mental‑health specialists were called to the scene. It is unclear what the woman was holding or whether any further investigation is ongoing.
