A disturbing incident of alleged bullying and assault involving a Grade 10 student at Milnerton High School has sparked outrage across Cape Town and beyond. The learner’s parent has publicly claimed that their son was subjected to physical assault, verbal harassment, and ongoing emotional abuse by a group of boys — some of whom are alleged to be members of the school’s Rugby First Team.
A video of the incident, which has since gone viral on social media, reportedly shows a group of boys physically assaulting the learner after school hours. The incident is believed to have taken place on or around October 16, 2025.
The parent issued a statement expressing deep concern over the school’s handling of the matter, alleging a culture of silence and inaction that enabled the abuse to continue over time.
“My son, a Grade 10 student at Milnerton High School, has been subjected to bullying, physical assault, harassment, and emotional abuse by a group of boys, including some members of the school’s Rugby First Team,” the parent said.
The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) confirmed that the school was made aware of the video on October 17 and has since launched an internal investigation. According to the department, disciplinary procedures are currently underway.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has opened a case of “assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.” Investigations are ongoing, but no arrests have been reported as of this writing.
In a public response, WCED spokesperson Kerry Mauchline urged members of the public to refrain from sharing the video due to the involvement of minors and the sensitivity of the case.
The incident has reignited calls for stricter anti-bullying measures and better accountability in school environments. Civil society organisations and parents’ groups are urging the education authorities to take decisive action against those involved.
