Starbase, TX — During preparations for a 6-engine static fire test as part of its pre-flight campaign, SpaceX’s Starship Ship 36 experienced a significant anomaly that led to the destruction of the vehicle and caused substantial damage to the Massey’s rocket test site.
The incident occurred at SpaceX’s testing facilities in Starbase, located approximately 5 miles from the main Starship production complex and around 9 miles from the city limits of Brownsville, Texas.
In an official statement, SpaceX confirmed that all personnel are safe and accounted for, and no injuries were reported.
The company has not yet disclosed the cause of the anomaly, but investigations are expected to follow as part of standard post-incident protocol. Ship 36 was undergoing routine static fire preparations as part of its qualification for a future test flight.
This marks a setback for the Starship development timeline, though such events are not uncommon in the testing phases of rocket development.
More details will be shared as they become available.
