A man is facing one count of terrorism and 11 counts of assault with intent to murder after allegedly stabbing 11 people inside a Walmart in Traverse City on Saturday.
The suspect, 42-year-old Bradford James Gille of Cheboygan County, entered the Walmart in around 4:45 p.m. and began attacking people with a folding knife near the checkout area.
Officials say the stabbing was random and unprovoked. The victims range in age from 29 to 84 years old, with six men and five women injured.
Several bystanders — including a man with a concealed pistol license — jumped into action, helping stop Gille before deputies arrived. The suspect was arrested without further incident. He was not injured.
As of Sunday morning, seven victims were in fair condition and four remained in serious condition, according to Munson Medical Center. One person has been released. Hospital officials say they are seeing signs of recovery among the victims.
Grand Traverse County Sheriff confirmed that there is no known motive and no indication of additional suspects. Gille had traveled to the Traverse City area from Cheboygan County earlier that day.
Gille is currently being held at the Grand Traverse County Jail and is expected to be arraigned on Monday or Tuesday.
