A local business is investigating allegations of theft after an employee admitted to taking money from a customer’s gift cards. The incident reportedly took place over the course of one to two months, with the employee acknowledging the unauthorized use of gift cards multiple times a day.
During a recent interview, the employee explained that the theft was carried out by scanning gift cards and withdrawing cash. “I just started doing the cards,” the employee reportedly said. The total amount taken is estimated to be around $300.
Authorities indicated that the employee may face legal action if charges are pursued by the employer. “So if your employer wanted to pursue charges,” an official asked, “do you know the total dollar amount of money you took?” The employee acknowledged the wrongdoing and provided details about the method used.
The suspect expressed concern about potential detention, asking if they could make a phone call and when they might be released. Law enforcement officials noted that the individual is likely to spend the night in custody before appearing before a judge.
The case highlights the importance of strict oversight in handling gift cards and cash transactions. Authorities have urged businesses to implement safeguards to prevent similar incidents in the future.
