A routine traffic stop took an unusual turn when officers discovered a vehicle traveling at high speed without one of its tires, according to footage captured during the encounter.
The video begins with an officer informing the driver that one of his tires is completely missing. The driver initially appears confused, insisting that his car is fine.
“There’s nothing wrong with that car,” the driver says while sitting inside the vehicle.
“It must have fallen off… when they saw it, I was like, what’s wrong with the tire?”
The officer directs the man’s attention to the severe damage along the side of the vehicle, including markings on the pavement where the rim had been scraping the road surface.
“You were going pretty fast with no wheel or tire on there,” the officer explains.
The driver claims he had recently been in an accident, suggesting the tire “must have fallen off” at some point. Despite driving on the bare rim, he maintains he could see the road clearly and believed nothing was wrong.
Toward the end of the stop, the officer notices the driver is wearing a University of Michigan lanyard, briefly shifting the tone of the interaction.
“It’s good you graduated from the University of Michigan,” the officer says.
“I did,” the driver replies.
Authorities have not released additional information regarding citations or further inspection of the vehicle.
