A bystander was taken into custody after allegedly attempting to trip a police officer who was responding to an active situation, authorities confirmed on Friday.
According to witnesses, the incident occurred when an officer began running toward an unknown location, reportedly in response to a call for assistance. As the officer passed by, a nearby individual extended their leg in an apparent attempt to trip him.
The officer quickly turned around and detained the individual on the spot. Video of the encounter, which has circulated on social media, shows the person yelling for help as the officer places them under arrest.
Commenters online have criticized the bystander’s actions, pointing out that the officer could have been responding to an emergency or pursuing a suspect. Many users described the arrest as a “lesson in minding your own business” when law enforcement is actively engaged in their duties.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the individual involved or confirmed what charges, if any, will be filed.
